Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) invites undergraduates to join the Workforce Timekeeping, Tech & Eng Fellow Undergrad Spring internship in New York City. The role runs at least 12 months and is an onsite, in‑person position with an hourly rate of $19.00 for undergraduates.

You'll support development and migration tasks across front‑end and back‑end technologies, contribute to documentation, and gain exposure to MTA’s core workforce systems (UTS/ATS) and Mobile App projects.

Qualifications

• Matriculated undergraduate in good standing (GPA 2.5+).
• Majors: Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and maintaining applications using front‑end tools (Oracle Forms, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular 15, Ionic 7) and back‑end (Oracle DB, PL/SQL).
• Prepare business and technical documentation for ongoing projects.
• Assist with migrating objects into QA/Production environments with other IT teams.
• Support weekly migration monitoring and successful deployments.
• Review change requests for accuracy and traceability.
• Learn MTA business processes and core workforce apps (UTS, ATS, Mobile App).
• Assist with application testing and new Mobile App features.

Position Title: Workforce Timekeeping, Tech & Eng Fellow Undergrad (Spring)

Hourly Rate: $19.00 (Undergraduate)

All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

The Workforce UTS (Unified Timekeeping System) department is responsible for sustaining and enhancing key timekeeping and workforce systems for operations employees, supporting daily operations and advancing major modernization initiatives. This position begins in Spring 2027, candidates should be ready to commit minimum of 12‑months in the role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in developing and maintaining applications by working with modern front‑end tools (Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Apex 24.2, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular 15, Ionic 7) and supporting back‑end technologies (Oracle Database, PL/SQL).
• Contribute to the preparation of business and technical documentation for ongoing projects and operational needs.
• Assisting with migrating objects into QA and Production environments through collaboration with other IT departments.
• Supporting the team in monitoring weekly migration activities and ensure successful deployments.
• Assisting with migrating objects into QA and Production environments through collaboration with other IT departments.
• Assisting the team in reviewing and analyzing change requests for accuracy and completeness.
• Assisting the team with following version control processes to manage application changes and ensure proper traceability.
• Learn and understand the business processes and core workforce applications (UTS, ATS, and Mobile App).
• Support application testing, including enhancements, fixes, and new Mobile App features.

PROJECTS:

• UTS/ATS modernization assistance through testing, change review, and migration support.
• Supporting the team in monitoring and managing weekly QA/Production migrations with proper documentation.
• Supporting Mobile App enhancements, new requests, and application testing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
• Strong curiosity, eagerness to learn, and interest in solving problems.
• Foundational knowledge in programming or systems development.
• Basic knowledge of version control processes (Git or similar).
• Familiarity with Oracle, PL/SQL, and APEX 24.2 or willingness to learn them.
• The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
• The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
• The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
• Individuals who are willing to learn and understand MTA business processes and operational systems.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
• Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related field.
