Job description

This position will be open until filled.

Job Summary: Workforce Development (WFD) instructors are per diem/part time hired to teach specific classes or programs that are scheduled and taught at various times throughout the calendar year. In addition to providing classroom or on-line instruction, WFD instructors may also develop, modify or customize new or existing curriculum and lesson plans in accordance with College and Department curriculum requirements and quality standards. All instructors will also complete certain class and student related documentation the College requires for accurate record keeping of their assigned classes and student performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Journey-level, Associates degree, or equivalent
EXPERIENCE: 5 years experience as a tool and die maker in the manufacturing industry
Excellent communication skills
Tool and die design and fabrication experience
Ability to work with diverse populations
Knowledge and experience in: machine operations, mill, lathe and grinders
Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T symbols
Design and create dies, molds and/or fixtures

Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience is highly preferred.

Job Specific Task List:

  • Workforce Development (WFD) instructors provide interactive classroom or on-line based instruction and student academic support for assigned classes. Lesson plans are designed or delivered to ensure both quality and consistency of academic instruction. Strong candidates must possess good organizational skills, the ability to motivate and encourage success in fulfilling their teaching duties with minimal supervision. WFD instructors should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning amongst a wide range of student backgrounds. Candidates should demonstrate resourcefulness, creativity, initiative and a sincere interest in transforming students' lives so that they can reach their maximum potential, while being culturally sensitive and dependable. WFD instructors may also have a responsibility for providing face to face instruction both on and off campus to local organizations, military groups, government entities, companies, and other educational institutions within HACC’s service region.
  • This position will be responsible for providing education as outlined above for the following discipline(s) and areas of study: Tool & Die Maker Training and Tool & Die Apprenticeship including the following areas of study: basic math (applied geometry, practical trigonometry), print reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, measurement, shop safety, layout design, milling, grinding, tool use and maintenance, die making, jigs and fixtures, gages, lathe use and turning, grinding, hydraulics and heat treatment. Classes for this discipline typically require a minimum instructor time commitment of at least 144 hours/year to teach assigned classes.

Job Type: Part Time

If part time, hours per week: 4-12 per week. Workforce Development Instructors work on an 'as needed' basis, up to 1000 hours a year.
