The Workforce Development Program Coordinator leads the coordination and development of workforce initiatives designed to build pathways to employment within UI Health. This role is instrumental in designing, implementing, and evaluating programming that equips volunteers and students with the skills and experience needed to pursue future employment opportunities at UI Health and in the broader healthcare field. The coordinator also oversees and supports certificate training programs in areas such as Phlebotomy, CNA, MA, and Surgical Technology, depending on organizational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Program Planning & Coordination:
  • Coordinates work-based learning opportunities such as site visits, job shadows, internships, and guest speaker engagements throughout the school year and summer.
  • Oversees and coordinates certificate training programs in Phlebotomy, CNA, MA, and/or Surgical Technology, etc.
  • Develops and manages detailed work plans and programming calendars.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for invited speakers, community partners, and participating departments.
  • Creates professional and youth-friendly educational curriculum focused on career readiness and workforce skills.
  • Outreach & Engagement:
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal departments, community organizations, schools, colleges, and workforce partners.
  • Identifies UI Health departments with student employment opportunities and prepares students for the application process.
  • Develops and delivers presentations to schools, community organizations, and partner institutions to promote workforce development programs.
  • Coordinates recruitment, screening, and enrollment of program participants.
  • Communications & Promotion:
  • Writes and disseminates program communications including emails, letters, invitations, event handouts, promotional materials, reports, social media posts, and website content.
  • Promotes workforce development opportunities through various communication platforms.
  • Student & Volunteer Support
  • Provides job coaching and career guidance to students and volunteers, including resume writing, interview preparation, job searching, and career mapping.
  • Oversees onboarding and orientation for student volunteers and undergraduate program coordinators.
  • Program Operations & Evaluation
  • Develops and monitors program metrics and evaluation tools to measure outcomes and impact.
  • Oversees daily operations of workforce development initiatives; identifies and manages priorities.
  • Analyzes volunteer staffing data, identifies gaps, and implements best practices across Volunteer Services programming.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and data analyses for internal and administrative use.
  • Administrative Support & Leadership
  • Manages sensitive and confidential documents, including personnel and institutional records.
  • Serves as a liaison between departments and off-site clinics; provides responsive support to stakeholders.
  • Delegates tasks and supports staffing plans for departmental needs and events.
  • Coordinates with vendors, tracks deliverables, and ensures successful execution of services.
  • Maintains office inventory and communicates material and supply needs.
  • Reviews and updates departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance and consistency across platforms.
  • Researches and recommends best practices for program improvement and future planning.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
  • Demonstrated experience providing job skills training or post-secondary support to high school and/or young adults.


(Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
