Job description

Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening in our Baltimore office for a Paralegal with experience in workers' compensation and insurance defense.

We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid work. This position will require you to be in the office 5 days per week for the first 90-180 days.

Semmes is a paperless office environment.

Compensation: $50,000 to $80,000 annually including bonus

Responsibilities and Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication and software skills (i.e., Word, Outlook, e-filing, etc.).
  • Experience in workers’ compensation and understanding of the laws and procedures associated with the area of practice.
  • Collect information from clients by asking informative questions beneficial for the client’s claim.
  • Good communication skills to answer questions from clients and potential clients.
  • Monitor the progress of each claim by communicating with healthcare providers, adjusters, and agencies.
  • Review and obtain client medical records, documents from adjusters, wage info, and employer records for case preparation.
  • Handle incoming mail and prioritize important tasks.
  • Manage attorney calendars, scheduling, and travel plans.
  • Scan and update hearing folders; send out letters post-hearings.
  • Open new files and ensure smooth practice operations.
  • Possess excellent critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Typing speed of at least 60-70 WPM.
  • Track billable time daily.
  • Prepare legal documents and correspondence accurately and promptly.
  • Handle court filings, both paper and electronic.
  • Organize and manage electronic and paper documents.
  • Ensure timely submission of documents into the firm’s docket system.
