Job description

Title : Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney (Remote)

Location : 100 % remote work from home

Shift timing : 9 am to 5 pm PST

Rate : $60 to $90 / hr on W2

Position

Overview

  • This is a fully remote, in-house position responsible for managing a designated caseload of Workers' Compensation cases and handling appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive legal research, and develop well-reasoned legal arguments.
  • Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs.
  • Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for Hartford insured clients.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with clients on legal and factual issues, providing legal advice and updates.
  • Maintain professional communication with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
  • Ensure efficient and effective resolution of assigned cases.
  • Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials or administrative hearings.
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.

Qualifications

  • Note : This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, based on experience.

Staff Attorney Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience in Workers' Compensation law.
  • JD from an accredited law school and California state bar license.
  • Trial experience preferred but not required.
  • Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Senior Staff Attorney Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience, including handling complex Workers' Compensation cases, such as life pension cases.
  • JD from an accredited law school and California state bar license.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly adapt to new software.
