The role requires coordinating with staff, building worker power, and participating in collective bargaining activities. A flexible schedule including evenings and weekends is common, with salary described in the union agreement.
Organizers at CTUL are the primary connection with our membership and essential to building worker power. Organizers make initial contact with workers and develop their leadership within the organization and specific campaigns by listening, understanding self-interest and barriers, agitating, and supporting workers to take risks and grow in their leadership. Organizers do this by visiting worksites or community locations, having one on one conversations, holding small group meetings, and facilitating group meetings or training sessions. Often they support a worker in fighting back against a workplace violation through legal channels or through small campaigns and through this process build worker leadership to fight for systemic change.
