Tutors work one-on-one, review homework, present monthly themes, and help students develop study habits. A high school diploma is required, and candidates must be able to travel between sites and commit about 15 hours weekly, including some Saturdays.
The TRIO Upward Bound Program at the University of Utah is seeking talented, experienced Tutors to assist in the delivery of an after-school tutoring program to high school students between grades 9 and 12, within the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts. The TRIO Upward Bound Program helps both struggling and gifted students reach their full potential by supplementing the instruction they receive in class and guiding them toward study practices and aides that can help them excel. Tutors work with individual students one-on-one and occasionally organize group activities for students who are studying the same material. The TRIO Upward Bound team offers compassionate, motivating assistance to students, and tutors are expected to do the same.
High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required. The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Background check.
