Work Study Lab Assistant: Muscle Biology Lab

The Muscle Biology Lab at Oakland University is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our team as a Lab Assistant for the FALL 2026 / WINTER 2027 ACADEMIC YEAR. Our lab uses a variety of molecular biology techniques, including genotyping, PCR, real-time PCR, Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, muscle cell culture and animal work. Please note that you must have a FEDERAL WORK-STUDY (FWS) award to apply for this position.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain lab cleanliness and organization
• Wash dishes and sterilize tools and materials (autoclaving)
• Prepare buffers, reagents, and other materials for experiments
• Assist with general animal husbandry and maintenance of the mouse colony
• Support graduate students and the PI in routine laboratory experiments

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior lab experience is a plus but not required
• Willingness to work with mice (training provided)
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a willingness to learn
