Job summary

DTE Energy is seeking a Maintenance Planner to plan and prepare multi-week work orders for outages, maintenance, and capital projects. You will coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors, using Maximo, SAP, Documentum, and scheduling tools to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.

The role requires strong planning, coordination, and estimating skills to ensure timely completion with measurable results.

Qualifications

  • Multi-track base requirement: education and experience can be satisfied by one of three options.
  • Associate's degree + two years of mechanical, electrical, or instrument experience in utility setting.
  • High school diploma + relevant experience in power/industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies root causes and defines work scope for daily and project work.
  • Develops time and resource estimates with appropriate productivity.
  • Creates step-by-step job plans for efficient completion.
  • Validates estimates against actuals to improve data quality.
  • Develops multi-week schedules with milestone dates for major projects.
  • Assembles and maintains safety notices and related documentation.
  • Manages backlog consolidation requests and procurement tasks as needed.
  • Guides preventive maintenance work and optimizes resource use with data analytics.
  • Interacts with engineering, project management, supervisors, vendors, and contractors daily.
  • Oversees contractors as needed.

Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee's primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company's remote work guidelines.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Plans and prepares work orders for multi-week schedule for all groups involved in equipment outages, corrective and preventive maintenance, capital and operating/maintenance modifications. Works with internal resources, vendors, and contractors to develop and execute work packages maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs. Utilizes the following systems to create and track optimal sequencing of work orders and work completion: Maximo, SAP, Documentum, EBS, scheduling software, and Office 365. Requires strong coordination and planning, scheduling, and estimating skills to ensure maintenance is performed in a timely and efficient manner with verifiable metrics. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.

Key Accountabilities
  • Identifies root causes of problems and establishes work scope for daily and project work
  • Develops accurate time and resource estimates that require appropriate levels of productivity
  • Develops accurate job plans that provide step by step process to complete work scope efficiently
  • Validates resource and job plan estimates against actuals to improve Maximo data
  • Creates or supports accurate, complete multi-week schedules, including milestone dates for major projects
  • Builds complete packages, including safety notices, which are validated through walk-downs
  • Manages backlog consolidation requests
  • Completes required purchasing and procurement tasks as necessary
  • Develops and maintains and supports the management of preventive maintenance work
  • Recommends the most effective use of both internal and external resources including the use of data analytics
  • Utilizes the appropriate tools to create, plan and execute the work, including Maximo, Documentum, scheduling software, and Office 365
  • Creates and maintains effective daily interactions with engineering, project management, various levels of job supervisors, specialty vendors and contractors
  • Provides oversight of employees and contractors as needed
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:

  • Associate's degree in an engineering discipline (or have completed two years of a four-year accredited engineering program) and two years of mechanical, electrical, or instrument experience working on equipment typically found at a electric or gas utility; OR
  • High school diploma and three years of estimating, scheduling and planning experience in a power plant, electric utility, heavy industrial or heavy construction setting; OR
  • High school diploma with seven years of experience working on equipment typically found in a power generating station, electric utility, heavy industrial or heavy construction setting in either a skilled trade or certified operating position
Other Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to act independently and accept new responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interpret P&ID's, blueprints, drawings, schematics, measuring devices, and rigging and lifting equipment
  • Estimating skills predicated on reasonable, critical and documented assumptions and reflect appropriate productivity from crew
  • Ability to coordinate information from various sources and interface with multiple customers to complete tasks
  • Problem-solving skills utilizing a formal methodology
  • Knowledge of cost analysis regarding work orders
  • Ability to understand the business implications of decisions

Preferred:

  • Power Plant experience
  • Experience working with and developing work scope schedule
  • Knowledge of LOTO and/or PPO77 hazardous energy control, and the tie to work management
  • Instrument and calibration knowledge or experience
  • Acts as a change agent through involvement in process improvement
  • Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges prevailing practices and approaches with reasonable sound alternatives
