Job summary

Summa Health – Akron City Campus is seeking a Work Leader – EKG to manage daily EKG operations, perform 12-lead EKGs, and support both Akron City and Barberton Hospital Campuses.

The role requires clerical experience, EKG technical background, and the ability to work in a team, with BLS certification and strong knowledge of medical terminology. Afternoons, full-time, with potential additional on-site days.

Qualifications

  • High school level coursework in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics.
  • 1 year of clerical experience
  • 1 year of EKG technical experience
  • Ability to attain BLS certification and maintain it
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Ability to work in a team and take initiative beyond duties
  • Ability to perform and document 12-lead EKGs
  • Familiarity with filing and data entry in hospital systems
  • Ability to use Epiphany and EPIC to obtain reports

Responsibilities

  • Provide 12-lead EKGs and perform related duties.
  • Reconcile orders, correct EKGs, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Assign EKGs to physicians and coordinate daily operations.
  • Support EKG department and scheduling.
  • Provide information to offices and other facilities.
  • Assist in coverage for other shifts as needed.

Location

Summa Health – Akron City Campus

Type & Hours

Full-Time / 40 hours / Afternoons (M-F 3p-11:30p)

Possible 1 Day a week at Barberton Campus

Summary

Serves as a full time EKG work leader, EKG editor that provides order reconciliation, EKG corrections, trouble shoots all EKG orders, EKG errors and medical record issues. Manages daily operational needs to assign EKGs to be read to appropriate physician groups. Serves as an EKG technician to support all shifts when coverage is needed. Performs and documents 12 lead EKGs. Provides basic office support for the EKG department, monthly EKG schedule and assists in the management of call off coverage. Provides EKG information to offices, departments and other facilities. Works to provide EKG services to Crystal Clinic and Summa Rehab on daily basis. Supports both Akron City and Barberton Hospital Campuses.

Formal Education Required
  • High school level course work in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics
Experience and Training Required
  • One (1) year clerical experience
  • One (1) year of EKG technical experience
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
  • Ability to attain BLS certification – and maintain certification thereafter
  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge
  • Proven moderate typing skills
  • Proven moderate computer skills/running reports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Must display problem-solving skills and have ability to handle situations quickly

  • Ability to perform and document 12 lead EKG test with and without rhythm strips.
  • Demonstrated skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact in person and over the telephone with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital, personnel
  • Demonstrated skill in alphabetical/numerical filing
  • Demonstrated microcomputer skills; or willingness and ability to acquire such skill to operate application packages used by department (e.g. to enter and retrieve data and/or type routine correspondence
  • Ability to obtain selected reports from Epiphany and EPIC as requested
  • Ability to perform in a work team environment
  • Ability to perform EKGs during Trauma Teams, Stroke Teams, Code Stemis, hospital procedures and stat orders.
  • Ability to be self directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure and ability to take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g. suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a teams direction)
  • Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
Level of Physical Demands
  • Light: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force continuously.
Salary

$21.54/hr - $25.86/hr

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
