Job summary

Zeno Power in the Bay Area is seeking a highly motivated Work Control Specialist to support radiological work control in our Bay Area facility. You will develop, review, and implement control procedures for radiological and non‑radiological work, and prepare work packages for internal and subcontracted tasks.

This role demands strong knowledge of radiation protection, ALARA principles, and regulatory frameworks, plus the ability to manage multiple priorities in a startup‑like environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Health Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of radiological work control or related experience in regulated environments.
  • Experience writing and reviewing radiological permits and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation protection principles (ALARA) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Able to meet deadlines and perform under pressure in an uncertain environment.
  • Ability to manage and support numerous simultaneous tasks with a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage radiological and non‑radiological work control procedures, processes, and documentation at Zeno's radiological facility.
  • Develop and shepherd all work packages for radiological and non‑radiological work performed at the facility, including subcontracted work.
  • Coordinate radiological safety planning for routine and non‑routine work, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure proper controls are integrated into work planning for safe and compliant execution.
  • Attend – and lead as necessary – plans of the week and plans of the day meetings to direct radiological work.
  • Serve as the primary interface for internal project managers on behalf of the radiological facility.
  • Participate in self‑assessments, audits, and regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Interface with and ensure Zeno's activities are integrated with landlord's work control planning and operations.

Work Control Specialist

Zeno is seeking a highly motivated Work Control Specialist to support the mission-oriented efforts of fabricating and bringing to market Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS) technologies. Reporting directly to Zeno’s Radiological Facility Manager, the Work Control Specialist will be responsible for development, coordination, and execution of radiological work control processes across our Bay Area radiological facility.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and manage radiological and non‑radiological work control procedures, processes, and associated documentation at Zeno's radiological facility.
  • Develop and shepherd all work packages for radiological and non‑radiological work performed at the facility, including subcontracted work.
  • Coordinate radiological safety planning for routine and non‑routine work, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Project Management, Engineering, Regulatory, Quality, and Operations) to ensure proper controls are integrated into work planning for safe and compliant execution.
  • Attend – and lead as necessary – plans of the week and plans of the day meetings to direct radiological work.
  • Serve as the primary interface for internal project managers on behalf of the radiological facility.
  • Participate in self‑assessments, audits, and regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Interface with and ensure Zeno's activities are integrated with landlord's work control planning and operations.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. in Health Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in radiological work control, nuclear operations, or closely related field, preferably in highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with radiological work planning and control processes, including writing and reviewing permits and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of radiation protection principles (including ALARA) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Able to meet deadlines and perform under pressure in an uncertain environment.
  • Ability to manage and support numerous simultaneous tasks that require a multi‑disciplinary approach.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a DOE or NRC/Agreement State regulated facility, including hot cell operations.
  • Familiarity with radiation protection programs, instruments, and techniques.

Job Functions

  • Position requires daily in‑office presence at a radiological facility in the Bay Area
  • Travel: Travel is required, approximately 10%
  • Motor Abilities: Sitting and/or standing for extended periods, bending/stooping, grasping/gripping, fine motor control (hands)
  • Physical exertion and/or requirements: Minimal, with ability to safely lift up to 15 pounds
  • Repetitive work: Prolonged
  • Special Senses: Visual and audio focused work
  • Work Conditions: Stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day
  • Must be able to work in radiologically controlled areas and comply with facility and safety requirements

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary band for this position is $120,000-$165,000. The final job level and compensation will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, years of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, and other business considerations.
