Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Postgraduate coursework may be expected at this level.
  • Extensive knowledge of work control, materials management, and mechanical maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety and security training; stops work if unsafe or security is compromised.
  • Prepares and issues modification or maintenance work packages for complex activities.
  • Analyzes time and material requirements for complex activities.
  • Prepares detailed specs for materials and labor estimates.
  • Develops step-by-step work instructions for complex activities.
  • Manages and expedites priority of work packages.
  • Reviews isolation or de-energization instructions for complex systems.
  • Coordinates permit development, testing requirements, documentation, records management and training.
  • Follows Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance for work control and planning.
  • Ensures all work control results meet quality specifications.
  • Promotes an inclusive work environment free from discrimination.

Job description

Spectra Tech has an immediate need for a Work Control Planner 4 in Los Alamos, NM.

Summary

Develops and/or reviews work packages including time, material, and labor estimates, written step-by-step work instructions, procedures, and/or safety and testing requirements for the implementation and control of operations, maintenance, or modification of work activities within a given facility or area. Specific planning duties may be related to mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological equipment, policies, and procedures and may also include resolving work restraints and bringing work packages to final closure.

Job Duties
  • Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
  • Prepares, reviews, and issues equipment and/or system modification, corrective maintenance, and/or preventative maintenance work packages for unique and/or complex activities in unique and/or complex facilities in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.
  • Analyzes time and material requirements for unique and/or complex work activities.
  • Prepares detailed specifications for materials and labor estimates for unique and/or complex activities.
  • Takes the lead in developing step-by-step instructions for work for unique and/or complex activities.
  • Manages and expedites established priority of work packages.
  • Prepares and/or reviews efficient and specific instructions for the isolation, containment or de-energization of various unique and/or complex mechanical, physical, electrical, chemical and/or radiological systems according to established procedures and regulations
  • Manages various functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, retrieval and review, and/or training.
  • Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to work control and planning.
  • Ensures all work control results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
  • Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
Job Knowledge
  • Unique knowledge of and broad experience with unique and/or complex work control, materials management, and/or mechanical maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures in unique and/or complex facilities.
  • In-depth understanding and ability to interpret various unique and/or complex mechanical and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Ability to fully utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking work- planning activities.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solution on unique and/or complex problems affecting work control and planning.
  • Ability to fully conceptualize and communicate major elements of work control and planning for unique and/or complex activities, both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated exceptional skill in the preparation and presentation of work control reports.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Laboratory's work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting work control and planning.
  • Ability to self-supervise.
Education

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 15 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
