Job description
Overview

Position: Full-time, exempt. Location: Star Roses and Plants, West Grove, PA. This role requires heavy travel (50–70% of the time) across North America and some international travel to Canada.

Title: Woody Technical Advisor for Star Roses and Plants (SRP). You will serve as an expert and champion for the company’s proprietary woody genetics, acting as a liaison among woody leadership, sales, customers, and suppliers to strengthen and grow the woody program across the pipeline and working groups.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the woody leadership team and production planning committees; work with the woody new product development team to select new varieties for introduction.
  • Act as liaison between the woody leadership team and sales team to align strategies and allocate resources to grow market share and nurture relationships with growers and suppliers.
  • Spend time in the field with sales representatives, training them to understand customer value in woody plants and how SRP products meet those needs with solution-based offerings.
  • Represent SRP woody genetics at regional and national trade events; create awareness of existing and future varieties and lead initiatives to move customers to SRP proprietary woody products.
  • Provide onsite or remote technical support to customers and suppliers, collect data from customer plant trials, and use insights to encourage new varieties in customer offerings.
Requirements

Work environment: Able to work in an office, outdoor conditions, and while traveling. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach; operate standard office equipment; maintain hearing and vision within normal ranges. Ability to stand and walk for long periods during industry events, greenhouses, nurseries, and trial sites; expect exposure to temperature extremes, humidity, weather conditions, and potentially hazardous materials.

Travel requirements: 50–70% throughout North America, including travel with sales reps in their territories, visiting customers and partners, attending industry events, and trips to the Pennsylvania facility if remote. Ability to travel outside the United States to Canada.

You have this
  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field, or equivalent experience. Product knowledge within the woody/tree market is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a head grower/production manager/trials manager directly involved with growing woody/tree liners or finished plants.
  • Hands-on familiarity with woody field growing, propagation, pest and disease management, and related production protocols and challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with a collaborative approach alongside sales representatives and growers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other related software; solid general PC skills.
