Position Summary

A Woodworker position involves a combination of technical skills and physical labor, such as reading blueprints, setting up and operating woodworking machines, assembling components, and ensuring products meet quality standards. Key responsibilities include using a variety of tools, from hand tools to automated machinery like CNC machines, and performing tasks such as cutting, shaping, joining, sanding, and finishing wood to create and repair wooden products. The role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, and the ability to work with a variety of materials and tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Study blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings to understand project specifications, dimensions, and materials.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain woodworking machinery, including saws, sanders, and CNC machines, using appropriate tools and safety gear.
  • Select and prepare tools for each job, and position and handle wood pieces, which may be heavy, on machines.
  • Cut, shape, and join wood components using tools, glue, clamps, and fasteners to assemble finished products.
  • Sand and apply finishes like paint, varnish, or lacquer to completed products to achieve a specific look.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet industry standards and project specifications, making adjustments as needed.
  • Repair and refurbish damaged furniture or other wooden items, replacing defective parts as necessary.
Experience Requirements
  • Proficiency with a wide range of woodworking tools, both manual and power-driven, and the ability to operate modern automated machinery.
  • The ability to set up, adjust, and maintain machinery.
  • A keen eye for detail is crucial for accuracy in cuts, measurements, and finishing.
  • Understanding basic geometry to visualize and assemble three-dimensional objects.
  • Must have an active DOD clearance or the ability to obtain before start date.
Education Requirements
