Talon Technical Services seeks a Woodworker to pack, crate, and fabricate wooden items per work orders supporting packing and shipping operations at a US Army setting.

Responsibilities include operating woodworking machinery, creating crates and boxes, inspecting materials, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Candidates should have 1–2 years of related experience, a high school diploma, and the ability to lift heavy loads in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Job Summary

The Woodworker will pack, crate and fabricate wooden items as specified according to the IAW work order requirements in support of packing and shipping operations.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)rie

  • Ensure that the material destined for shipment is clean prior to acceptance.
  • Verify DD Form 1348 or DD Form 1149 for the material being shipped.
  • Comply with special documentation, packing and shipping requirements for items.
  • Make maximum use of ALL reusable cushionable shipping boxes.
  • Manufacture timber products, including Crates, furniture’s and boxes, and many of them may be required to be produced in bulk.
  • Ability to create items that are tailored to the specific needs of customers as well as destinations to include CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Responsible for creating high-quality, extensive work following established standards, norms, and practices in this position.
  • Inspects, verifies and counts supplies and equipment for accuracy, condition, and accountability, and performs limited computer functions as directed or required.
  • Performs PMCS on Material Handling Equipment (MHE), i.e., tool, saws, nail guns,, pallet jacks, handcarts, and other assigned hardware and or tools.
  • Complies with requirements and standards of appropriate regulations, directives, and technical manuals; safety, environmental, and quality standards; and applicable COPs/DOPs.
  • Support/participate in the company QA Program.
  • Authority to challenge documentation as to accuracy.
  • Has “stop work authority” if a safety or potential safety situation occurs.
  • Favorably interacts with internal / external customers.
  • Complies with all Company rules, policies, procedures.
  • Mentors and assists with on-the-job training and cross-training.
  • Participates in training and cross-training sessions as required or necessary.
  • Performs housekeeping and other job-related duties as assigned. This job description is indicative of the work required for the position, but is not all inclusive of the work required to perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be able to recognize the strategies and plans, preparing and setting up hardware, lifting pieces of wood onto the machine by hand, operating wood making and cutting machinery, listening for a unique sound, detecting excessive motion, ensuring the item meets requirements, using hand tools to trim pieces or arrange products, and removing and replacing dull saw blades.
  • Required to participate with on-site setups, complete projects within designated timelines, fulfill task deadlines, follow clear instructions in manufacturing packets, service requests, and illustrations, produce high-quality tasks with meticulous attention to detail, collaborate as part of a group, and do whatever it takes to fulfill timeframes, industry best practices, and consumer expectations.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
  • Other current or OJT trainings to include: New Hire Orientation, Safety Briefing/PPE, HAZCOM, Defensive Driver Course (DDC), Driver License, Sexual Harassment Training, 2-10K Forklift, HAZMAT Course, and Spill Prevention and Action Plan Training, and Subversion and Espionage Directed Against the U.S. Army (SAEDA) Training.
  • Must be able to maintain a position of Public Trust
  • Must have a Valid State Driver’s License.
Experience & Education
  • One (1) year (two (2) years desired) of related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, manufacture, and test wood goods
  • Make furniture with hand tools
  • Used machinery and equipment
  • Work on a high-volume military training environment
  • Set up, run, and maintain wood nailing devices
  • Sand items using sandpaper after cutting, shaping, and smoothing wooden parts
  • Contribute to the preservation of all materials
  • Make wooden highlights and trim
  • Finish all phases of the carpentry process
  • Color raw wood
  • Fix boxes, crates, and other wood products
  • Make sure the wood isn’t split or swelled.
  • Design and build unique measurements for specific materials.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Work requires standing, climbing, bending, stooping, sitting, walking and occasionally working in cramped positions.
  • Must be free of medical restrictions / limitations that prevent the performance of required duties and / or prevent the wearing and utilization pf Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Individual must be able to perform required duties, and wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Individual must be able to lift/move 45 lbs. without assistance and up to 130 lbs. with assistance.
  • Able to meet criteria of DA PAM 611-21 and AR 601-210.
  • Individual must be physically capable of performing the work in extreme temperatures, low humidity, blowing sand and dust.
  • Must be able to meet CMF criteria in accordance with DA PAM 611-21 and AR 601-210.
  • Individual may be required to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to work under stressful circumstances and meet short suspense’s.
  • Job may require operating at heights above ten (10) feet but not more than thirty (30) feet.
