Job summary

CENTER FOR VETERANS ISSUES INC in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Assistant / Woodshop Instructor to support veterans through skilled trades and safety-minded practice.

This role splits about 50% facilities maintenance and 50% woodshop instruction, teaching safe tool use, completing repairs, and helping prepare Veteran housing.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and experience in carpentry or related trades, with a patient, giving approach and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in maintenance, carpentry, woodworking or skilled trades.
• Ability to safely operate and teach woodworking tools.
• Patience and ability to teach skills to diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Complete repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, work orders, and projects.
• Develop and lead woodworking classes for Veterans.
• Teach safe use of hand tools, power tools, stationary equipment, materials, finishes, and basic woodworking techniques.
• Create individual and group projects that build practical skills, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence.
• Provide clear demonstrations and patient, hands-on coaching.
• Use Veteran-centered, trauma-informed approaches that emphasize dignity, choice, strengths, and achievement.
