Job Summary:

The Wood Shop Builder role involves constructing custom crates and pallets for the safe and secure transport of sensitive defense equipment, components, and materials. The ideal candidate will have experience working with wood, metal, and other materials, ensuring that products are properly protected during shipping and storage.

Essential Functions:
  • Build custom crates and pallets according to engineering specifications, blueprints, or customer requirements for defense products and components.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and machinery to cut, shape, and assemble crates and pallets. Ensure each crate/pallet is sturdy, secure, and complies with all safety and quality standards.
  • Install padding, cushioning, and other protective materials inside crates to safeguard defense products from damage during shipping and handling.
  • Ensure all crates and pallets meet regulatory standards for military and defense-related shipments, including weight limits, dimensions, and secure fastening methods.
  • Inspect finished crates and pallets for structural integrity, ensuring they meet specifications and are free from defects.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Maintain records of materials used, work completed, and any special requirements or modifications for individual projects.
  • Utilize MRP systems to manage production schedules, and material requirements to ensure timely availability of materials for woodshop processes.
  • Perform all job-related duties, including but not limited to the responsibilities outlined above, and any additional responsibilities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, or shipping instructions preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, and nail guns.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in an industrial setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle unexpected challenges.
  • Must demonstrate the ability and willingness to obtain an overhead crane permit as part of job requirements.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
  • Previous experience in crate and pallet building, woodshop, or construction work, especially in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
Background Prerequisites:

Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
