Job summary

Stellantis is seeking a Wood Model Maker for the Prototype Wood Model Shop (Concept Tooling). The role involves building rough stock for CNC machining, hand crafting parts, and finishing with sanding, sealing, and lamination preparation.

You will read 2D and 3D drawings, set up and operate woodworking machinery, and fit fiberglass or carbon fiber laminates as needed. A minimum of one year of experience and a journeyman credential are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of relevant experience.
• Journeyman Wood Model Maker credential.
• Able to read 2D and 3D drawings.
• Able to create model from 3D drawing.
• Familiar with fiberglass & carbon fiber lamination processes.
• Proficient with wood working machinery and sanding/sealing.

Responsibilities

• Build rough stock for CNC machines.
• Hand build parts and assemble models.
• Finish sand and coat models for lamination or vacuum forming.
• Glue up stock and prepare for CNC machining.
• Use calipers and height gauges to ensure accuracy.

Job description

We are looking for a Wood Model Maker in our Prototype Wood Model Shop (Concept Tooling). The candidate will build rough stock for CNC machines, hand build parts, and finish sand and coat models for lamination or Vacuum forming.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Minimum of one year of relevant experience
• Journeyman Wood Model Maker
• Working knowledge of Planners, Jointers, Band saws, Table saws, and other wood working machinery
• Able to read 2d and 3d drawings
• Able to create model from 3D drawing
• Working knowledge of Fiberglass & Carbon Fiber lamination process
• Proper use and type of sandpaper
• Proper use and type of wood filler
• Able to read height gages, calipers and use scribe tools
• Proper use of spray gun for application of sanding sealer
• Able Glue up stock in preparation for CNC machine.
• Square a base.
• Build a perfect plank base.
• Flatten stock for mounting.
• Drill holes in stock
• Drill & countersink holes in base.
• Thorough understanding of CNC milling processes

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of model building experience
• Able to laminate and trim fiberglass and carbon fiber parts.
• Exposed to urethane mold making.
