Wood Memorial Middle/High School - School Counselor

Creating impactful, integrated, rigorous, and relevant educational experiences while focusing on developing positive relationships; East Gibson School Corporation is on a mission to prepare kindergarten through 12th grade students within the eastern part of Gibson County in Southwestern Indiana to prepare for tomorrow’s future. East Gibson School Corporation boasts a 14:1 student to teacher ratio with students scoring at or above Indiana state assessments. The East Gibson School Corporation embodies a close knit community filled with a rich, rural culture.

East Gibson School Corporation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor. The primary goal will be to deliver a comprehensive, data-driven program that supports three key pillars: Academic Development, College and Career Readiness, and Social-Emotional Wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Academic & Personal Development

  • Individual Planning: Helping teachers support students in developing personalized academic plans and tracking progress toward Indiana’s graduation requirements.
  • Course Advisement: Appraising student interests and aptitudes to assist with course selection and academic goal setting.
  • Transition Support: Facilitating smooth transitions from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school.
  • Tiered Interventions: Participating in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team to identify students needing academic or behavioral interventions.

2. College and Career Readiness (CCR).

  • Graduation Pathways: Guiding students through Indiana's Graduation Pathways.
  • Career Exploration: Administering career interest assessments and helping students connect their hobbies and strengths to potential work environments.
  • Skill Development: Teaching essential "soft skills" like punctuality, resilience, and workplace etiquette that transfer from school to the workforce.
  • Postsecondary Guidance: Assisting with college applications, financial aid (FAFSA), and vocational or technical training options.

3. Social-Emotional & Responsive Services

  • Prevention Programming: Delivering Tier 1 instruction on topics such as anti-bullying, drug and alcohol prevention, and digital citizenship.
  • Conflict Management: Teaching students negotiation, refusal skills, and stress management strategies to regulate emotions.

4. Program Management & Advocacy

  • Data Analysis: Using achievement, attendance, and discipline data to identify and close achievement gaps.
  • Collaboration & Consultation: Partnering with parents, teachers, and administrators to support student success and referring families to community resources when necessary.
  • Professional Leadership: Aligning the counseling program with the school’s mission and vision
Key Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or the willingness to pursue a minimum of 6 credit hours toward the degree annually.
  • Valid IN School Services License or willingness to pursue an Emergency Permit.
  • Valid CPR/AED certification
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with or knowledge of Indiana Graduation Requirements
  • Proficiency in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and data-driven decision making.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
