Job Summary

The nurse manager is a registered professional nurse who provides leadership and management of a specific unit(s) or service through effective use of knowledge and skills to promote a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes. The nurse manager is the standard bearer on his/her unit and holds all participants accountable for the delivery of care and services through effective communication, observation, and management of interventions and outcomes. Responsibilities include clinical, financial, human, and material resources deployment and related outcomes. The Nurse Manager serves as a chief retention and safety officer, ensuring safety and quality standards are upheld using data and technology to make decisions and mitigate risks. They create a safe work environment that supports the organization’s mission and goals, fostering communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, and other departments. Role-specific competencies, responsibilities, roles, and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. They also uphold the voice of the patient, system policies, and service excellence goals.

  • Resources and Support: Engage staff in decision-making via shared governance, promote relationship-based care, and manage resources effectively. Use negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, establish partnerships, and foster a positive work environment. Build relationships with staff, departments, and medical staff.
  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Promote staff competency, uphold professional standards, support professional development, and employ change management strategies.
  • Professional Development: Understand healthcare financing, design systems to meet clinical and business goals, and manage budgets.
  • Evidence-Based Practice and Research: Promote research and performance improvement, ensure compliance, and use data for decision-making.

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing
  • Master’s in Nursing (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS - Instructor or Basic Life Support
  • RN-Compact or Single State License
Experience

Minimum 2 years of progressive nursing management experience required.

Skills

Excellent communication, leadership, systems thinking, professionalism, teamwork, business acumen, and knowledge of healthcare financing and data use.
