WLKY is seeking a Local News Reporter to generate story ideas, write to video, produce reels and deliver compelling live shots in a fast-paced newsroom in Louisville, KY. The right candidate will own big stories daily, break news, and collaborate with photographers to tell the best possible story.

The role requires strong writing, reel-worthy reporting, and the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining journalistic integrity.

Qualifications

• Proven professional reporting experience.
• Experience with enterprise reporting and uncovering details.
• Demo reel showcasing everyday work including reels.
• Clear, compelling copy writing that supports visuals.
• Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use current tech.
• Willing to work in all weather conditions and environments.
• Uphold unwavering journalistic integrity and ethics.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Willing to work varying shifts, including overnights and weekends.
• Military experience will be considered.

• Work with or without a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound
• Produce compelling vertical videos for social platforms
• Contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day
• Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, that accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
• Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance
• Work on different stories and projects at once and meeting all deadlines under pressure.
• Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards

Requirements

• Professional reporting experience

• Your demo reel is indicative of your everyday work, including reels
• Write clear, correct, compelling copy that supports images gathered
• Operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
• Can work in all weather conditions
• Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
• Have a valid driver's license and a clear driving record
• Work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends
• Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast productionRelated military experience will be considered
