Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Design and performance analysis: solid modeling, casting design, drawings, and mechanical/thermal analyses.
  • Evaluate designs with first principles; support prototypes and production units.
  • Develop testing protocols; assess field feedback for improvements.
  • Collaborate to develop new products and modify existing ones to meet customer needs.
  • Provide technical support to sales; assist in product quoting and BOM creation.
  • Maintain BOMs and costing in PLM/ERP systems; ensure data transfer to ERP.

Purpose

To provide project management and technical aptitude in the development of AC & DC rotating equipment ensuring the company’s leadership position in the market

Essential Functions
Primary Responsibilities
  • Product design and performance: Solid modeling (Solidworks a plus), casting design, manufacturing drawing generation & review, mechanical and nodal analysis (ANSYS Mechanical a plus), rotor dynamics, structural analysis, bearing life calculations, shaft loading, thermal loading, and others as required.
  • Integrate First Principles in analyzing and evaluating preliminary designs, prototypes, and production units to support in qualification, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Develop performance testing protocols and evaluate results along with field feedback to affect product improvements as necessary to achieve optimum performance, customer satisfaction, and cost objectives.
  • Be an integral team member to develop new products and modify existing products to meet customer requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance to support sales efforts.
  • Support product quoting activities. Determine applicability of existing products, develop cost effective modifications to similar designs, and develop new products to support growth.
  • Develop bills of materials and product costing using various design and product data management tools (Solid Works, EPDM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (Visual) systems.
  • Assure accurate transfer of engineering data into the ERP system.
  • Assist in problem identification, correction, and verification.
  • Participate in Kaizen events to improve value stream
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
Physical / Safety / Time Allocation
  • Job requires sitting at a desk doing normal office work, including phone communications and using a computer. Also involves standing and walking in an office and a manufacturing facility. May be required to assist in production and testing of new products or product improvements.
  • Spends approximately 70% of time working at a desk in a normal office environment.
  • Spends about 30% of time on work away from desk, including going out into shop and discussing manufacturing issues with Manufacturing Department personnel. Must wear eye protection and any other required personal protective equipment while on the shop floor.
Education / Experience
  • BSME, minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience (rotating machinery experience a plus).
  • Reasonable knowledge of noise, vibration & harshness principles as applied to rotating machinery.
  • Reasonable knowledge of the various manufacturing processes used in motor production.
  • Familiarity with electric motors a plus
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential to convey issues and progress on activities.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven analytical skills and problem-solver
  • Proficient knowledge and use of MS Office Suite
  • Experience in a LEAN environment a plus
  • Must possess the ability to build peer relationships as well as work independently
  • Must be action oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus
Travel
  • Less than 5% of time to support customers.
