Job summary

Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse to join the Withdrawal Management team. This Saturdays-only role provides nursing care and withdrawal support for adults with substance use disorders, conducting assessments, monitoring withdrawal, and coordinating care in a trauma-informed, team-based setting.

The position emphasizes safety, evidence-based withdrawal care, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams to support clients on their recovery

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in good standing in Minnesota.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain during onboarding.

Position Summary

Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge is seeking a compassionate and clinically skilled Registered Nurse to join our Withdrawal Management team. In this role, you will provide nursing care and withdrawal management support for adults experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring health conditions. You will conduct nursing assessments, monitor withdrawal symptoms, support medication management, and coordinate care for individuals beginning their recovery journey. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, trauma-informed, and person-centered withdrawal management services within a multidisciplinary treatment environment.

Admissions & Clinical Assessment

  • Complete clinical screenings, nursing triage assessments, and admission evaluations.
  • Assess medical stability, withdrawal risk, substance use history, mental health concerns, and appropriateness for admission.
  • Utilize evidence-based withdrawal assessment tools, including CIWA-Ar and COWS.
  • Identify clients requiring a higher level of care and coordinate appropriate referrals.
  • Complete nursing intake assessments, health screenings, medication reconciliation, and health history reviews.
  • Communicate significant clinical findings and recommendations to the treatment team.

Nursing Care & Withdrawal Management

  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms, client health status, and treatment progress throughout the withdrawal management stay.
  • Implement nursing interventions and provider orders consistent with scope of practice and program protocols.
  • Identify and respond to withdrawal complications, medication concerns, and medical emergencies.
  • Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary treatment team collaboration.
  • Provide health education related to withdrawal management, medications, wellness, and follow-up care.

Medication Management

  • Review, reconcile, and monitor medications upon admission and throughout treatment.
  • Assist with medication administration, medication education, monitoring, and prescribed injections as ordered.
  • Monitor effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions and communicate concerns to prescribing providers.
  • Maintain medication documentation, storage, accountability, and regulatory compliance standards.

Compliance & Care Coordination

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Coordinate care with hospitals, pharmacies, healthcare providers, and emergency medical services.
  • Support compliance with Minnesota Statutes Chapters 245A, 245C, and 245F, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable nursing standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement, licensing reviews, training, and ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain certification during onboarding and prior to providing direct care.
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Experience conducting nursing assessments, health screenings, medication reconciliation, and clinical triage.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders, withdrawal management, co-occurring conditions, medication-assisted treatment, and recovery-oriented care.
  • Experience using withdrawal assessment tools such as CIWA-Ar and COWS.
  • Knowledge of ASAM Criteria and level-of-care determination principles.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and healthcare technology systems.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive care.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable Minnesota licensing and regulatory requirements, including Chapters 245A, 245C, and 245F.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements.
  • At least one (1) year free from problematic substance use.
  • Successful completion of all required training and competency requirements prior to providing client care.
  • Successful completion and ongoing eligibility for Minnesota DHS background studies.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift, transfer, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance, consistent with client care and emergency response responsibilities.

Ability to safely transfer, reposition, lift, and assist clients with mobility needs and activities of daily living in accordance with established safety procedures, training requirements, and nursing standards of practice.

Ability to respond promptly to emergencies and move throughout the facility as needed to ensure client safety.

Ability to safely transfer, reposition, lift, and assist clients/patients in accordance with established safety procedures and training.

Regular on-site attendance required to support client care, admissions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and operational needs. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Target Compensation (Negotiable based on Qualifications):

Day Shift: $36.00-$41.00/hour

Overnight Shift: $38.00-$42.00/hour
