Job summary

Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group (WISPIRG) in Wisconsin is hiring an experienced Public Interest Advocate to run state-based organizing and advocacy. The Advocate will shape issue priorities, meet decision-makers, and represent the organization to allies and the media.

You will build grassroots and online bases, recruit staff and volunteers, and fundraise to sustain campaigns focused on transportation reform, consumer protection, health and environmental issues.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Commitment to advancing the public interest and cross-partisan social change.
  • Leadership, strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Experience in state-level political advocacy and organizing.
  • Ability to recruit, train and develop staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop program and campaign strategy within a broader political context, overseeing policy development and messaging.
  • Advocate to federal, state and local decision-makers and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Serve as public spokesperson through media events, press releases and editorial opportunities.
  • Identify and engage coalition partners to support campaigns and convene coalitions.
  • Lead fundraising efforts and cultivate donor relationships to sustain campaigns.
  • Recruit and manage staff and volunteers to increase impact and power.
