Job summary

Pacific Seafood is seeking a Distribution Engineer to design, optimize, and support end-to-end production and warehouse operations in a food processing and distribution setting. You will partner with operations, planning, OEMs, and automation teams to improve throughput, efficiency, and cost performance while maintaining high quality.

The role emphasizes Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints to drive throughput gains, reduce waste, and optimize facility layouts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.
• 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, distribution, or food processing environments.
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints.
• Strong knowledge of food processing and packaging operations, production line design and optimization and warehouse operations and material handling systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize food processing and packaging line layouts, including room configurations and material flow.
• Support daily production operations through process improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving.
• Develop and improve warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, picking, and order fulfillment processes.
• Evaluate and implement material handling solutions to increase efficiency and reduce labor costs.
• Collaborate on factory automation systems including MES, PLCs, sensors, and control systems.

The Distribution Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting end-to-end production and warehouse operations within a food processing and distribution environment. This role partners cross-functionally with operations, production planning, OEM vendors, and automation teams to improve throughput, efficiency, and cost performance while ensuring high-quality standards and operational reliability.

KPI’s

• 1. Engineering & Operational Support Throughput Improvement: Establish correct throughput standards for production line. Yield Improvement: Reduction in waste/scrap and increase in usable product output, Labor Productivity: Output per labor hour improvements across production and warehouse operations
• 2. Automation & Systems Integration Percentage of scheduled uptime for MES, PLCs, and automated systems ≥ 98% system uptime with minimal unplanned downtime during production
• 3. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement Order Fill Rate: Improvement in on-time and complete order fulfillment, Order Accuracy: Reduction in picking, packing, and shipping errors
• 4. Facilities & Layout Planning Optimized use of production and warehouse square footage (e.g., storage density, flow efficiency) Increased throughput or capacity without proportional facility expansion

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Operational Support

• Design and optimize food processing and packaging line layouts, including room configurations and material flow.
• Support daily production operations through process improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving.
• Develop and improve warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, picking, and order fulfillment processes.
• Evaluate and implement material handling solutions to increase efficiency and reduce labor costs.

2. Automation & Systems Integration

• Collaborate on factory automation systems including MES, PLCs, sensors, and control systems.
• Partner with OEM vendors to specify, install, and optimize production equipment and integrated systems.
• Support commissioning, startup, and validation of new production lines and automation technologies.
• Utilize vision systems and inspection technologies for first article validation and ongoing quality control.

3. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

• Analyze and improve production line performance with a focus on throughput, yield, and overall productivity.
• Identify opportunities to reduce production costs and eliminate waste using Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints methodologies.
• Partner with production planning and scheduling teams to enhance production flow and capacity utilization.
• Drive process improvements in warehouse operations to streamline receiving and order fulfillment processes.
• Improve order accuracy, fill rates, and reduce operational errors.

4. Facilities & Layout Planning

• Lead facility layout design, refurbishment projects, and reconfiguration of production and warehouse spaces.
• Support re-commissioning efforts for modified or relocated production lines.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary to support the overall goals and objectives of the position.

What you bring to Pacific Seafood

Education and Experience

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.
• 7+ years of experience in in manufacturing, distribution, or food processing environments.
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of food processing and packaging operations, production line design and optimization and warehouse operations and material handling systems

Preferred

• Experience working with OEMs to improve machinery performance and integration.
• Familiarity with production planning and scheduling processes.
• Experience with vision systems and automated inspection technologies preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be available to work Monday–Friday during regular working hours, with occasional weekend duties.
• Ability to maintain a stationary position 80% of the time, with intermittent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and/or crawling.
• Ability to move and transport documents, equipment, or other items weighing up to 50 pounds across various locations for different team members, departments, and events.
• Capable of occasional travel as required by duties, demonstrating efficiency and effectiveness in diverse locations.
• Capable of operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, including a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
• Capable of frequently communicating with team members and stakeholders, accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions.
• Capable of perceiving visuals for activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer screen, and engaging in extensive reading.
