Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Connectivity Software Engineer in San Francisco to design, implement, and optimize wireless features across our products. You’ll work at the intersection of systems software, wireless standards, and hardware integration, building robust pairing and provisioning flows while debugging low-level protocols.

With a focus on real-world RF constraints, you’ll contribute to certification readiness, fleet-scale telemetry, and stay ahead in Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi interoperability.

Qualifications

• Shipped wireless features on Linux-based products.
• Strong C/C++ and scripting skills (Python or shell).
• Deep knowledge of Bluetooth Classic/BLE and Wi-Fi protocols.
• Proven debugging and performance optimization under RF constraints.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and debug Bluetooth/BLE and Wi‑Fi features across kernel drivers and system services.
• Deliver robust pairing, bonding, and provisioning flows (GATT/GAP, WPA3, LLDP).
• Optimize link performance: throughput, latency, jitter, roaming, coexistence.
• Build network management using NetworkManager/nmcli, dns/dhcp/cfg80211/mac80211.
• Instrument and analyze with packet captures and tooling (Wireshark, btmon, iperf).
• Drive interoperability and certification readiness (Bluetooth SIG, Wi‑Fi Alliance).
• Contribute to OTA-safe configuration and fleet-scale diagnostics.
