Job summary

Allied Reliability is seeking a Wire Operator to run wire straighten and cut machines, ensuring safety, quality and production goals. The role requires operating multiple machines, adjusting settings, and coordinating with maintenance and the Shift Supervisor to keep lines running smoothly.

You will load and unload wire with forklifts and cranes, weigh and box finished product, and maintain accurate data reporting while meeting strict safety standards.

  • Label, package, and palletize boxes for storage and shipment.

Job description

Functional Area: Wire

Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Position Description: The primary purpose of the position is to operate the wire straighten and cut machines to achieve safety, quality, and production objectives and supply wire to the Stake Flag Department.

Wire Operator Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operating multiple wire straighten and cut machines.
  • Adjusting dies, feed wheels, and all other machine parameters to achieve objectives.
  • Troubleshooting machine problems and communicating equipment issues to maintenance.
  • Performing tool changes and product changes when and where needed.
  • Loading spools of wire on the turntables using a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Unloading straightened wire from the machines and into boxes.
  • Weighing, moving, and organizing boxes of wire using carts and forklifts.
  • Meeting all quality and production standards, minimizing scrap and downtime.
  • Labeling, packaging, and palletizing boxes of wire for storage, inventory and shipping.

Key Competencies:

  • Performing all job functions in a safe manner, follow and enforce all policies and procedures.
  • Leading housekeeping efforts and always maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Identifying and immediately communicating personnel and safety issues to the Shift Supervisor and assisting with investigations and resolutions of the issues if needed.
  • Communicating and working with Stake Flag Department personnel to ensure an appropriate quantity and quality of raw materials is delivered to the Stake Flag Department as needed.
  • Accurate and complete reporting of production and quality data both manually and in computer systems.
  • Reporting any continuous improvement opportunities to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Moving materials as needed using forklifts or overhead cranes.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Excellent safety and attendance record.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating day and night shifts, and report on time for scheduled shifts and follow company attendance policies.
  • Possesses strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Possesses basic knowledge in math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
  • Possesses basic problem-solving skills.
  • Understands production rates and production schedules.
  • Ability to balance and achieve results in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost Reduction
  • Must have the ability to complete two or more tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision and maintain a working and up-to-date knowledge of products and services.
  • Must be able to handle self in a professional manner with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to take responsibility for self and team.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to continually bend, stoop, crouch, reach above shoulder, use arms, wrists, grasp and squeeze with hands, access constricted spaces, and lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to dusty or dirty ambient conditions.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to hot or cold ambient conditions.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to mild chemical irritants.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Excellent forklift skills with the ability to safely move pallets of material into storage racks.
  • Ability to use an overhead crane to safely move products and machine parts with no damage.

Training:

  • Training would be a mixture of online training on safety, quality, and production procedures along with on-the-job training conducted by an experienced Wire Operator.
  • Additional training would be provided as needed by the Assistant Production Manager and Shift Supervisor.
  • Training duration would normally be 3 weeks.
