Job summary

HRUProfessional in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a Harness Design Engineer Specialist to design and build electrical harnesses for our next-generation combat vehicles.

You will work in CHS (Mentor Graphics) and harness XC/Logic/Topology, coordinate with CAD draftsmen, and collaborate with systems engineers to define vehicle interconnects. Bachelor’s degree required with <1 year experience; some overtime possible; security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.

• Occasional overtime and weekend hours may be required to complete critical tasks.
• Experience with Capital Harness System (CHS) software, Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology is desirable.
• Experience with Pro-E Creo desirable.
• Experience with NX desirable.
• Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to use Engineering Development and Test Tools.

• Must be able to obtain a security clearance if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical wiring harnesses including connectors, backshells, sleeving, braiding, sealants, boots, transitions.
• Determine harness layout through vehicle and branch points for multi-branch harnesses.
• Design to environmental requirements (temp, shock, vibration, submergence, chemicals).
• Use CHS software (Harness XC, Capital Logic, Capital Topology) for harness design.
• Route harnesses with CAD draftsmen in 3D CAD tools (Pro-E, NX).
• Develop released drawings for harnesses, electrical installations and wiring diagrams.
• Collaborate with systems engineers to define vehicle pin-level interconnect.
• Work with physical architects to define harness routing channels and space claims.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The role of Harness Design Engineer Specialist will be working in our Harness Group and be responsible for helping to designing and constructing Electrical Harness Designs that will be used in our next generation of combat vehicles.

++Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role:++

• Designing electrical wiring harnesses to include component selection for connectors, backshells, sleeving, braiding, sealants, boots, transitions, etc.
• Determining harness layout through vehicle and branch points for multi-branch harnesses
• Designing to environmental requirements for temperature, shock, vibration, submergence and exposure to harsh chemicals
• Designing harnesses in Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, working specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology

Secondary Tasks:

• Working with CAD draftsman to route harnesses in 3D CAD tools (Pro-E and/or NX)
• Working with CAD draftsman to develop released drawings for harnesses, electrical installations, wiring diagrams, etc.
• Working with systems engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect
• Working with physical architects to define harness routing channels, space claims
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.
