Job summary

Accent Family of Companies is seeking an entry-level Wire Drawer in Rural Hall, NC. The role begins on the 1st shift (7am-3pm) and will move to the 3rd shift (11pm-7am) after about 1–3 months of training.

Starting wage is $19 per hour with a $1.50 shift differential when moved to the 3rd shift. No specific benefits are listed; PPE is required and safety protocols must be followed.

Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or production experience preferred.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to wear required PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed boots, etc).

Responsibilities

  • Operate wire drawing machines to reduce wire from round to rectangular cross-section and improve properties.
  • Read job instructions specifying size, number of passes, and reduction per pass.
  • Set adjustable dies for the first pass by turning adjustment screws.
  • Start and monitor the machine, adjust for proper wire tension and progress.
  • Stop the machine when all wire has passed through dies.
  • Switch wound rolls to feeding position and bare rolls to winding position for next passes.
  • Record production data and output.
  • Examine wire for defects using a loupe or close inspection.

Job description

THIS IS A POSTION THAT WILL TRAIN ON 1ST (7AM-3PM) THEN MOVE TO 3RD (11 PM-7 AM) SHIFT. TRAINING TAKES APPROXIMATELY 1-3 MONTHS DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY EMPLOYEE LEARNS. Pay goes from $19 to $20.50/hr ($1.50 Shift Differential) once moved to 3rd.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operating wire drawing machines: The wire drawer operates machines to reduce wire from round to rectangular cross-section and improve its physical properties.
  • Reading job instructions: The wire drawer reads job instructions that specify size, number of passes, and amount of reduction on each pass of wire through series of wire drawing dies.
  • Setting adjustable dies: The wire drawer sets adjustable dies for the first pass by turning setscrews on which divisions are shown.
  • Starting and observing the machine: The wire drawer starts the machine and observes operation to ascertain if drawing is proceeding as specified and makes adjustments to obtain required wire tension.
  • Stopping the machine: The wire drawer stops the machine when all wire has passed through dies.
  • Switching rolls: The wire drawer switches wound roll to feeding position and bare roll to winding position, adjusting die for the next pass, and repeating until wire is drawn to size specified.
  • Recording production: The wire drawer records production.
  • Examining wire for defects: The wire drawer may examine wire for defects, such as scratches or cracks, using an eye loupe.

Requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. The role is often associated with precision and consistency, which are essential for producing high-quality wire products.

Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
  • Walk and stand continuously.
  • Manipulate, grip, grasp and handle wire weighing 50 or 100lbs
  • Bend, stoop and reach constantly throughout shift.
  • Able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
