Job summary

The City of Thornton is seeking on-call Warming Center Team members to support shelter operations during severe winter weather. This seasonal role requires readiness to respond on short notice and to assist with motel vouchers, shelter security, and resident support.

Responsibilities include registering shelter entrants, coordinating with shelter coordinators, reporting daily updates, and ensuring safety, sanitation, and health services at city facilities. CPR/AED may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• CPR/AED certification and First Aid training may be required.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Distribute motel vouchers during severe weather and assist with shelter security and coordination with law enforcement.
• Provide support to individuals seeking shelter at motels and city facilities, ensuring safety, security, and sanitation.
• Register and assess shelter entrants; maintain check-in/out records using databases.
• Provide daily reports to management and coordinate with shelter coordinators and stakeholders.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain incident reports.
• Explain eligibility for motel vouchers and arrange transportation as needed.
• Supervise food preparation and service at shelter facilities and track supplies.
• Set up sleeping areas and assign sleeping arrangements.
• Monitor facilities including restrooms and registration area and address occupants' needs.
• Maintain health and safety, provide first aid as directed by DHS.
• Perform basic custodial tasks when needed.
• Comply with city policies and perform other duties.
