Job summary

Education Jobs NJ seeks an Assistant Coach to support the team under the Head Coach/Athletic Director. Responsibilities include daily operation, attending practices and games, executing drills, and maintaining discipline and sportsmanship.

The role requires New Jersey teaching certification, knowledge of the sport, and familiarity with NJSIAA rules. A 12-month year term with a stipend is provided.

Qualifications

• New Jersey Standard Teacher Certification or County Teacher Certification.
• Knowledge of the sport intended to coach.
• Knowledge of NJSIAA conference and school regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily operation of the team and, when the head coach is not present, assume full responsibility for the team's performance.
• Attend all meetings, practices, scrimmages, and games.
• Follow the head coach's directives regarding drills, practices and teaching techniques.
• Coach sub-varsity games per head coach's directives on players, plays, offense/defense.
• Distribute and collect uniforms and equipment; assist in their care and maintenance.
• Supervise players with the head coach in locker rooms, buses, during/after games.
• Assist in preparing the budget.
• Contact players regarding practices, games, cancellations, or other information.
• Teach athletes proper sportsmanship, attitudes, and behaviors.
• Scout opponents as directed by the head coach.
• Complete reports and records as required.
• Develop crowd control procedures with the head coach and Athletic Director.
• Teach health and safety procedures to the team.
• Handle disciplinary matters in cooperation with the head coach.
• Maintain professionalism toward officials, spectators, players, opponents, and the head coach.
• Keep the head coach informed of actual or potential problem situations.
• Assist in other appropriate duties as required by the head coach.
