Mat-Su Borough — Public Works in Palmer, Alaska is seeking a winter temporary Laborer to assist with solid waste handling and litter control. The role is 6 months, 40 hours per week, with schedule variability based on division needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Less than one year of experience; relevant experience includes operation of equipment, hand/power tools, processing technician.
• Must have a valid Alaska drivers license; at least 19 years old with one year of driving experience.
• Must pass pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical; Hepatitis B vaccination series and Td/Tdap vaccination or declination as applicable.
• HazWoper requirements for hazardous waste division.
• Must be comfortable working in tight spaces.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining the central landfill.
• Processes latex paints and other universal wastes according to division policies and procedures.
• Packs refrigerants into containers.
• Transports universal waste from transfer sites.
• Loads abandoned waste into vehicle for transport to landfill.
• Assists in tagging vehicles for impound; takes photographs and collects data.
• Cuts weeds and brush.
• Assists with snow removal operations.
• Answers customer questions and directs the public to waste disposal areas.
• Performs related duties.
