Job summary

The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) invites applications for a Winter Staff Instructor for Winter 2026-2027. This seasonal, part-time role involves creating basic lesson plans and guiding adaptive ski lessons for participants with disabilities at Purgatory Resort area.

You will work with volunteers, document progress, and adhere to ASA safety policies while fostering a positive, constructive learning atmosphere. Benefits include a free season pass and pro-deals.

Qualifications

  • Independent, intermediate skiing/riding skills.
  • Knowledge and exposure of adaptive ski equipment preferred.
  • Passion for working with people with disabilities.
  • Able to attend required training.
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment.
  • Successful completion of background check.
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently lift, carry, and load equipment that weighs 50+ pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Create a basic lesson plan matched to each student’s ability and goals.
  • Communicate instructions to students during the lesson, including but not limited to directives, technique, and feedback.
  • Complete progress notes following each lesson as explained during training, along with specific notes on equipment used in each lesson.
  • Effectively engage and co-teach with volunteers in lessons and encourage others to volunteer with ASA.
  • Review and follow all ASA risk management and safety policies and procedures.
  • Implement and supervise safety/risk management protocols, a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Create a nurturing, positive, and professional environment while promoting programs policies and procedures amongst staff, volunteers, and community.
  • Be a positive representative and promoter of Adaptive Sports Association programs, events, and activities in our community.
  • Commit to continuing education in your field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs sustain continual responsiveness and improvement, as well as consciously continually contributing to a culture of receiving feedback.
  • Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, and volunteers.
  • Attend and engage in required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as specified and assigned

The mission of the Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) is to provide outdoor sport and recreational experiences for people with disabilities. These activities are provided regardless of individual financial limitations and create a fun atmosphere for learning and enhanced self-esteem.

Job Title: Winter Staff Instructor
Position Type: Seasonal, part-time, variable
Salary/Wage: Base Pay $18/hour, +$1 for each PSIA/AASI adaptive certification, +1 for full time
(4-5 days a week), +$.50 for each non-adaptive PSIA/AASI certification
Supervisor: Program Director

Hours, Days, and Benefits
  • Hours: 9AM-4PM
  • Days variable according to need Monday-Sunday
Full Time Staff Instructors (4-5 days a week)

  • 100% Reimbursement for current PSIA/AASI annual dues (no late fees), PSIA/AASI exam fees, and 6 continuing education units per year.
  • $300 gear stipend (paid at end of season)
Part Time Staff Instructors (1-3 days a week)
  • Discounted Season Pass through Purgatory Resort
  • Free lift ticket for days teaching
  • Pro-deals through ExpertVoice.com, Outdoor Pro Link, and local business discounts.
  • 50% Reimbursement for current PSIA/AASI annual dues (no late fees), PSIA/AASI exam fees, and 6 continuing education units per year.
  • $150 gear stipend (paid at end of season)
    *Maintaining PSIA/AASI membership and certifications is employee responsibility. ASA will not pay for the same certification twice if CEUs are not maintained.
