Job summary

The State of Indiana, through the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), is seeking Seasonal Winter Program Workers for snow and ice removal and related maintenance duties. A CDL is required, with interviews on Oct 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bring your license, MEC and education documents. Open start dates include November 9, November 23, or December 7, 2026, and a $250 sign-on bonus is offered. A $500 retention bonus applies to full-time hires who stay through 3/27/27.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
  • Must have the ability to move 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
  • Must have the ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
  • Must have the ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Must have the ability to work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary to perform winter operations activities.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
  • Moveand load supplies and materials.
  • Winter operationduties including snow and ice removal.
  • Perform emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
  • Perform equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
  • Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.;
  • Perform job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS).

Role Overview:

This position is responsible for performing general highway maintenance duties that keep INDOT assets in good working condition to ensure customer satisfaction. Seasonal Winter Program Workers perform snow and ice removal and related maintenance duties by operation of snowplow, and other winter operations duties as required. Traffic maintenance duties such as repairing and installing traffic signs and pavement markings are also required job duties for this position. A CDL is required for this position.

Retention Bonus:

A $500 retention bonus offered to Winter Seasonal Maintenance Worker working full-time hired on or before 12/7/26 who stay through 3/27/27.

Pay Rate:

This position pays an hourly rate of $21.00.

A Day in the Life:
