Job summary

Village of Hoffman Estates is seeking a seasonal snow removal worker to support maintenance crews during winter months. The role involves responding to residents and staff in a courteous, professional manner and participating in snow removal operations at village sites and roads.

Typical schedule is 40 hours weekly for about 12 weeks from December to March, with some hours outside the normal schedule for snow and ice control.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in snow removal operations at Village maintained sites, streets, and cul-de-sacs.
  • Assists crews with snow/ice control related activities, as assigned.
  • Assists Traffic Operations crews with related activities, including sign fabrication, sign posting, pothole patching, street repairs and barricade maintenance.
  • Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance, including washing, waxing, vacuuming, cleaning and lubricating.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks and assignments, including floor sweeping, window cleaning and site maintenance activities.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks and assignments, including painting.
  • Operates and properly maintains all tools and equipment needed to perform the essential job functions and responsibilities listed above while adhering to all safety rules and practices.
  • Performs other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.

Job description

Provides general assistance to various maintenance crews during the winter months. Responds to and interacts with residents, employees and/or others within and outside the organization in a courteous, professional and effective manner. Participated in snow removal operations both inside and outside of normal shift hours.

HOURS AND SCHEDULE

40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks from December to March

Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

May include hours outside of the normal schedule for snow and ice removal

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in snow removal operations at Village maintained sites, streets, and cul-de-sacs.

Ability to:
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to lift or move 50-100 lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to operate equipment, such as a hand operated salt spreader, snow shovel, hand saw, pruners, pole saw, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a Village vehicle to pick up and return auto parts to various locations in the Northwest suburbs. Must be familiar with the area.
  • Steel-toe safety shoes are required. (not provided by employer)
  • Minimum age required is 18.
