Job summary

Hopkins Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, organized Middle School Winter Dance Coach to support the Hopkins Dance Program. This position will coach middle school student-athletes during the winter dance season, serving as an extension of the Hopkins High School Dance Program.

The coach will work closely with the High School Head Dance Coach to develop fundamentals, promote positive team culture, and prepare dancers for future participation at the high school level.

Qualifications

• Previous dance experience in a competitive, school, studio, or performance setting.
• Coaching, teaching, or leadership experience with middle school students preferred.
• Knowledge of dance fundamentals, technique, choreography, conditioning, and performance prep.
• Knowledge of Minnesota high school dance styles, including jazz and high kick, preferred.
• Ability to teach foundational skills safely and developmentally.
• Ability to collaborate with the High School Head Dance Coach and staff.
• Commitment to long-term development of the Hopkins Dance Program.
• Must meet district coaching requirements and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct middle school winter dance practices and team activities.
• Teach age-appropriate dance fundamentals and performance skills.
• Develop jazz and high kick techniques where applicable.
• Coordinate with the High School Head Dance Coach on philosophy and technique.
• Prepare dancers for performances, competitions, and exhibitions.
• Communicate with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
• Support recruitment and retention of middle school dancers.
