Description
Ajax Turner Company, is hiring a Wine and Spirits Picker/Auditor. Ajax Turner Company, founded in 1961, is a multi-generational, family owned and operated business located in La Vergne, Tennessee. Ajax Turner Company proudly distributes and represents Anheuser-Busch, top selling local, regional and import brewers, premium non-alcoholic beverages, and a great selection of award-winning wines and spirits from all over the world.
The Wine & Spirits Picker/Loader is responsible for accurately and efficiently selecting customer orders, building stable pallets, applying the correct pallet labels, staging completed pallets with the proper delivery routes, and loading outbound trucks for next-day delivery. This position uses a voice-directed picking system, ride-on electric pallet jack, stand-up order picker, and other authorized warehouse equipment. The position requires safe equipment operation, consistent productivity, close attention to detail, and accurate verification throughout the picking, staging, auditing, and loading processes.
SCHEDULE: Sunday - Thursday
Sunday: 12PM - end of shift
Monday-Thursday: 3PM - end of shift
Qualifications
- Safely operate a ride-on electric pallet jack, stand-up order picker, reach truck, and other authorized warehouse equipment as assigned.
- Complete and document the required pre-shift equipment inspection before operating powered equipment.
- Use the voice-directed picking system to select the correct item, location, and quantity for each customer order.
- Build stable pallets that protect products from falling, shifting, breaking, or becoming damaged during transportation.
- Confirm that the correct pallet label is applied to each completed pallet.
- Transport completed pallets safely to the designated wrapping area.
- Ensure completed pallets are properly wrapped and secured before staging or loading.
- Stage each completed pallet in the designated lane with its assigned delivery route.
- Combine, wrap, and prepare one route at a time to reduce the possibility of mixing pallets between routes.
- Communicate with auditors and promptly correct any picking, product, quantity, damage, or labeling errors identified during the audit.
- Promptly report shortages, out-of-stocks, damaged products, incorrect locations, system issues, and other discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Follow the loading manifest and established route sequence when preparing pallets for loading.
- Verify the route and pallet label on every pallet immediately before loading it onto an outbound truck.
- Load W&S pallets onto the correct delivery truck in a safe, stable, and organized manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized picking, wrapping, staging, and loading area.
- Follow all company safety policies, warehouse procedures, and management instructions.
Performance Expectations
- Maintain an average picking rate of at least 100 cases per hour after completing the applicable training and progression period.
- Maintain fewer than five verified picking errors per week or meet any updated company accuracy standard.
- Meet productivity expectations without bypassing required safety, labeling, staging, auditing, or loading procedures.
- Accurately select the correct item, location, and quantity.
- Properly build, label, wrap, and stage every completed pallet.
- Ensure pallets remain with the correct route throughout picking, wrapping, staging, and loading.
- Verify every pallet label before loading and prevent avoidable shorts, overages, damages, or misloads.
- Promptly correct and communicate all identified errors.
- Maintain acceptable attendance, productivity, teamwork, safety, and workplace organization.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Must be detail-oriented and able to work safely in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills.
- Must be able to understand and follow voice-directed picking instructions.
- Must be able to repeatedly lift, carry, position, and stack cases weighing approximately 22 to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive material-handling tasks throughout the shift.
- Must be comfortable working at elevated heights while using a stand-up order picker.
- Previous order-selection experience is preferred.
- Previous experience operating an electric pallet jack, stand-up order picker, and reach truck is preferred.
- Company equipment training and certification must be successfully completed.
- Must be able to work independently with limited direct supervision.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with pickers, auditors, loaders, and supervisors.
