Overview

GovCIO is seeking a highly skilled System Administrator to support the management and maintenance of the Veterans Affairs IT infrastructure. This role involves troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues, ensuring optimal performance and security, and executing scheduled maintenance and upgrade activities. The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, government leadership, and engineering teams to design, maintain, and optimize server environments in alignment with customer requirements. This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively monitors system performance, diagnoses issues, and implements solutions to enhance reliability and security.
  • Ensures security compliance by overseeing access controls, backups, and firewall management.
  • Leads the administration of network servers and technology tools, driving continuous improvement and scalability.
  • Establishes and configures user accounts and workstations to support organizational productivity.
  • Executes system upgrades, deploying new releases and tools to maintain technology standards.
  • Maintains detailed internal documentation of system configurations and policies for clarity and operational excellence.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience (preferably in application support or development).
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with customers and internal teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, SaaS, Stata, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience with consolidating national datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Compensation

Posted Salary Range: USD $145,000 - USD $173,000 per year. The actual offer may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors. The position is at-will, and salary may be modified at any time.
