TOP - Wind Technician Level 1 Description

The Tech One Program (TOP) is a structured career development program for entry-level wind technicians, built in partnership between industry leaders Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas.

Job Summary:

The TOP Wind Service Technicians will undergo exclusive wind safety and technical training accredited through the Global Wind Organization (GWO). They will primarily work at wind site locations near their homes, on a service team to perform safe and efficient wind turbine maintenance. They report directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician when on a job. Responsibilities include performing preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine generator equipment safely and efficiently. They maintain and repair machinery or components used mainly in power generation, turbines, and generators as directed. They are not certified to work inside cabinets or controllers without direct supervision by a certified Electrical Technician. Additional duties may be assigned to meet customer needs and align with Sky Climber’s mission and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Authorized to work full-time in the United States
  • High School Diploma / GED and an Associate Degree in Mechanical or Wind Energy disciplines from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of safety and technical training including First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection, Tower Safety, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, LOTO, and other relevant training
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb 300-foot wind towers multiple times daily
  • Comfort working at heights up to 300+ feet
  • Meet weight requirements of tower ladders (250-300 lbs.) including PPE
  • Comfort working in confined spaces
  • Ability to see, move, and perform repetitive motions
  • Occasional kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, standing, and bending
  • Handle repetitive weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Complete climb and rescue training successfully
Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical installations, maintenance, operations, and upgrades
  • Ensure work complies with customer requirements
  • Follow established work procedures
  • Document all work performed
  • Report policy or safety violations
  • Submit progress reports
  • Repair or replace parts
  • Use activity-specific tools safely
  • Work independently on maintenance projects
  • Dismantle and assemble machinery and components
  • Travel as required (up to 25%)
  • Work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Work at heights and in all weather conditions
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
