The base salary for this position depends on experience and location.

Location: O'Dell, IL

Salary Range: $28.00 to $40.50 hourly

Avangrid Power seeks to fill a Wind Turbine Technician position. The level will be determined based on experience and education. This role involves onsite operations, maintenance, repairs, and equipment replacement at a wind power plant, reporting to the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain wind turbine equipment and associated infrastructure including substations, collection, and transmission systems.
  • Read schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with variable pitch, variable speed control systems.
  • Perform repairs or replacements of mechanical and electrical components following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Comply with environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance as per OEM manuals.
  • Follow internal controls and perform data collection and reporting.
  • Implement retrofits and design modifications.
  • Support QA/QC functions and assist in construction and commissioning walks if needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Enhance knowledge of turbine and solar equipment, including safety regulations.
  • Work overtime, including holidays and weekends, and participate in on-call schedules.
  • Travel to other sites as required (approximately 10-15%).
  • Perform duties involving low, medium, and high voltage, and work in adverse weather conditions.
Skills and Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • One year of college or technical training, or 12 months of related experience, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with maintenance and testing equipment (e.g., voltage testers, oscilloscopes).
  • Proficient computer skills for reporting and diagnostics.
  • Ability to climb towers up to 100 meters daily.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work with electrical wiring and interpret instructions.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment, cranes, and rigging.
  • Teamwork, initiative, and a positive attitude.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with wind and solar plant construction and operation.
  • High voltage switching experience.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Residing in or near the local area is preferred.
