Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a “safety first” attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
  2. Work in and around wind turbines.
  3. Climb multiple wind towers on a daily basis.
  4. Professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis.
  5. Demonstrate safety as a top priority.
  6. Install, inspect, maintain, operate, and repair wind turbines.
  7. Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the turbine to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly.
  8. Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment.
  9. Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines.
  10. Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  11. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions.
  12. Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems.
  13. Replace worn or malfunctioning components.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must possess an active Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or can obtain a TWIC card.
  3. Technical 2 or 4-year degree or certificate in wind energy or related preferred.
  4. Minimum one (1) year experience working in and around wind turbines, specifically for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or wind energy degree or certificate.
  5. Experience using basic power and hydraulic tools.
  6. Valid Driver’s License. (CDL Preferred).

PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety by taking personal responsibility for working to Zero Injury principles.
  2. Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  3. Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  4. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measuring using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  5. Basic understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  6. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  7. Ability to use hydraulic tension and torque tooling.
  8. Knowledge of entering and exiting the rotor, including locking out the rotor.
  9. Knowledge of using the internal chain hoist.
  10. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution.
  11. Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation.
  12. Ability to read, interpret, and understand basic drawings and schematics.
  13. Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height.
  14. Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  15. Able to maintain certifications required to perform the work, including but not limited to: First Aid / CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, Arc Flash, etc.
  16. Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices/protocols including LOTO.
  17. Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.
