Job Description Summary

The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub. The technician is essential for maintaining optimal turbine operation and output through daily work on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The technician collaborates with the Site Lead and Manager to meet contractual requirements and ensure alignment with GE standards.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with site & hub leadership to fulfill contractual obligations and perform activities related to electrical and mechanical components of GE wind turbines.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, or parts replacements to resolve malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on variable pitch & speed turbines.
  • Assist in site operations as directed, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Conduct electrical diagnostics as needed.
  • Document all work using computer-based service reporting tools.
  • Coordinate with GE’s remote operations center when necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, and
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, completion of Wind Certificate Program/Associates Degree in Energy, or 2 years of electrical work experience.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Pass a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to handle 50 lbs. weight and climb towers up to 300 feet daily.
  • Meet manufacturer weight limits (up to 300 lbs including gear).
  • Willingness to work in diverse environments, including industrial and manufacturing facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Work independently with initiative.
  • Flexibility for rotating shifts and on-call schedules; occasional overnight stays.
Desired Characteristics
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, electrical, or electronics field.
  • Technical certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic fields.
  • Experience with wind turbines.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic power tools and heavy equipment, including cranes and rigging.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams.
