Qualifications

Job description

Job Description Summary

The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub. The Wind Technician is a critical role responsible for maintaining optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The Wind Technician collaborates with the Site Lead and Manager to meet contract requirements and timelines, ensuring alignment with GE standards.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  1. Work with site and hub leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements and daily activities, including electrical and mechanical work on GE wind turbines.
  2. Perform maintenance, repairs, or replacements of parts to correct malfunctions.
  3. Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch and variable speed turbines.
  4. Assist in all areas of site operations as directed by the manager, observing all safety requirements.
  5. Conduct diagnostic electrical analysis as needed.
  6. Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  7. Coordinate and respond to GE’s remote operations center when necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, completion of Wind Certificate Program/Associate’s Degree in Energy, or 2 years of electrical work experience.
Eligibility Requirements
  1. Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
  2. Basic computer skills.
  3. Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain it.
  4. Ability to handle repetitive weight of 50 lbs. and climb towers up to 300 feet daily.
  5. Meet manufacturer weight limits, not exceeding 300 lbs including gear.
  6. Willingness to work in various environments, including industrial, manufacturing, and power facilities.
  7. Ability to prioritize work according to contract obligations.
  8. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  9. Flexibility to work rotating shifts and be on-call as needed; occasional overnight stays may be required.
Desired Characteristics
  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical, Electrical, or Electronics field.
  2. Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic field.
  3. Ability to work effectively with diverse personnel.
  4. Experience with wind turbines.
  5. Willingness to take initiative and work independently.
  6. Experience with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  7. Experience using hydraulic power tools.
  8. Knowledge of heavy equipment, cranes, and rigging requirements.
