Job description

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping and boating laws. The NCWRC employs over 700 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.


The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division employs over 200 Wildlife Officers who patrol fields, forests, and inland waters at all hours, in all 100 North Carolina counties. These officers ensure public compliance with fishing, wildlife and boating laws and regulations and enforce the conservation of wildlife resources and provide public safety through both proactive law enforcement and the instruction of quality education.

The WRC Law Enforcement Division - Telecommunications Center answers emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other law enforcement agencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Telecommunications Center also documents and disseminates information to Wildlife Enforcement Officers assigned to 9 Districts that cover all 100 counties in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for a Wildlife Law Enforcement Telecommunicator Supervisor for our Law Enforcement Division - Telecommunications Center.

The Telecommunicator Supervisor will be responsible for:

  • Supervising and directing the operation of the Wildlife Communications Center and eight Telecommunicators.

  • Conducting employee evaluations and administering the Performance Management Work Plan.

  • Providing training as mandated by the NC SBI (DCI) and training according to the policies of this agency.

  • Completing work schedules and approving changes as necessary.

  • Assist Support Services with radio programming and maintenance as needed.

  • Scheduling training and providing testing for Law Enforcement Officers and other state agencies so they can maintain their certification with the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) as mandated by the NC SBI.

  • Acting as the primary Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for the Law Enforcement Division and completing all tasks and duties associated with being a TAC.

  • This position will be responsible for working the radio console as a Telecommunicator and assisting other Telecommunicators as needed in addition to supervisory duties/responsibilities

This position will be based out of our Wildlife Resources Commission Headquarters building in Raleigh, NC (Wake County).

This work schedule will be as such: 40 hours a week / (4)10-hour shifts per week with 3 days off. This position will be scheduled for 8 am to 6 pm (day shift). This position will be required to work different shifts and times as needed to supervise employees on rotating shifts. The duties and responsibilities of this position will require weekend, after-hours, and holiday work. Schedule and shift time may vary depending on daily needs. Occasionally required to change planned days off in response to unexpected changes or emergencies.

  • Experience answering calls in a call center or communication center environment.
  • Experience supervising or training others.

Management Preferences:
  • Division of Criminal Information Network (DCIN) experience;
  • Emergency dispatch services experience;
  • Data entry experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications
  • Must meet the applicable education, employment, and training standards as required to be Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certified;
  • Must be DCI certified or become certified within 120 days of employment.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a telecommunicator;
