Job summary

Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah seeks Lifesaving and Care Specialists to provide daily animal care and medical support in our sanctuary. This role works with native wildlife in our rehabilitation clinic and education program, engaging the public to promote adoptions and volunteer involvement.

The position supports lifesaving objectives, participates in tours, and helps manage enrichment and training plans for diverse animal species. Weekend and shift coverage are required.

Qualifications

• Prior animal handling experience is required.
• Ability to work with wildlife and non-domestic animals is preferred.
• Comfort engaging with the public in an adoption context.

Responsibilities

• Support lifesaving objectives by handling all aspects of the adoption process and providing excellent visitor service.
• Serve as sanctuary ambassador, communicating Best Friends’ mission and no-kill goals to visitors.
• Foster a volunteers-first culture, helping volunteers maximize their impact and encouraging community involvement.
• Greet visitors, conduct tours, and answer questions about animals and sanctuary programs.
• Provide basic daily care for animals, including diet prep, enclosure cleaning, enrichment, and training plans.
• Assist with animals’ medical needs, medication, observation, and veterinary record-keeping as directed.
• Provide enrichment and exercise for animals as assigned by leadership; report observed issues.
• Maintain clean work areas and grounds and report maintenance needs per protocol.
• Model kindness and inclusion, respecting all people and backgrounds in daily interactions.
• Maintain a safe workplace by following safety practices and reporting unsafe conditions.
