Job summary

GBI in partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks a Biological and Invasive Species Technician to implement IPM and support refuge management at Pahranagat NWR, NV. The role involves coordinating invasive species control, wildlife monitoring, data collection, and collaboration with volunteers.

Starting Sep/Oct 2026, 40 hours/week, full-time with a 52-week appointment. Housing may be available onsite; compensation is hourly and benefits include medical, life, PTO, and 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife ecology or management, or related field.
• Experience collecting data accurately and entering data into a computer system.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
• Ability to self-direct and work productively as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Ability to perform strenuous fieldwork and adjust schedule for dawn or dusk tasks.

Responsibilities

• Identify, map, and treat invasive species, especially whitetop.
• Assist with IPM implementation in wetlands using chemical and mechanical methods.
• Track project progress and document treatments with GIS.
• Act as crew leader for volunteers and public groups on the refuge.
• Assist with restoration after invasive species removal.
• Support installation of signs and barriers to protect habitat.
• Provide reporting to GBI, Southern Nevada Restoration Team and USFWS.
• Assist with wildlife management activities including bird banding.
• Help maintenance with fleet vehicles, equipment, or buildings when needed.
