Job summary

The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, seeks a Biological and Invasive Species Technician for the Pahranagat NWR in Nevada. Join a 52-week, full-time field program to map, monitor, and mechanically and chemically control invasive flora and support wetland habitat management.

You will lead crew activities, document treatments with GIS, assist with restoration, and help with bird banding activities, reporting to project coordinators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife ecology or management, or related field.
  • Experience collecting data accurately and entering data into a computer system.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record; ability to drive 4WD on unimproved roads.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong organizational skills.
  • Must complete a Department of Interior Background Investigation prior to start.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, map, and treat target invasive species (Lepidium latifolium).
  • Assist with implementing IPM to treat invasives in wetlands using chemical and mechanical methods.
  • Track project progress and document treatments using GIS; report to GBI and USFWS.
  • Serve as crew leader for invasive species monitoring with volunteers and public groups.
  • Assist with restoration after eradication; install signs/barriers to protect habitat.
  • Support wildlife management activities, including duck and migratory songbird banding.
  • Assist maintenance with fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or buildings as needed.
