Job summary

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a skilled field coordinator to independently coordinate, implement, and supervise field activities across several program areas, including game management and endangered species protection. You will collect and summarize data from wildlife research and monitoring projects, and assist with developing extension and educational materials.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.
• Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.
• Preferred: Experience with survey, research, and harvest monitoring techniques for big game mammals, including aerial surveys, live-trapping, telemetry, and chemical immobilization. Proficient with firearm use. Experience with techniques for resolving negative human interactions with bears and deer.

Responsibilities

• Independently coordinates, implements, and supervises field activities in support of several program areas, including game management, endangered/threatened species protection, land management, and extension/outreach.
• Coordinates and summarizes data collected from wildlife research, survey, and monitoring projects.
• Assists with the development and delivery of extension and educational materials related to resolving human-wildlife conflicts.
• Maintains, repairs, and procures equipment, and performs basic-intermediate tasks in GIS.
• Supervises Fish and Wildlife Technician 1, interns, and volunteers and assists with scheduling fieldwork.
