Job summary

The Westervelt Company’s Westervelt Wildlife Services in Tuscaloosa, AL is offering a Summer Wildlife Internship for motivated students. You will gain hands-on experience in wildlife habitat management, population monitoring, and land stewardship while working with professional wildlife biologists.

This internship provides mentorship, housing allowance, and opportunities to contribute to hunting lease operations and wildlife consulting projects across managed landscapes.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Wildlife Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, Forestry, Conservation Biology, or related field.
  • Strong interest in wildlife conservation, habitat management, and outdoor recreation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist wildlife biologists with habitat evaluations and property assessments.
  • Participate in wildlife monitoring, field surveys, and data collection efforts.
  • Support implementation of habitat improvement projects for game and non-game species.
  • Assist with hunting lease operations and customer service initiatives.
  • Contribute to wildlife consulting projects and recreational land management plans.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze field data to support management recommendations.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including UTVs, tractors, and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
  • Work safely in diverse outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Collaborate with wildlife professionals, foresters, recreation staff, and landowners on resource management initiatives.
