Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Natural Resources Specialist to assist Marine Corps Base Quantico wildlife managers with surveys, habitat management, invasive species control, and related conservation actions. The role involves field data collection, QA/QC, data summarization, and reporting findings.

The incumbent will join a multidisciplinary team and may work outdoors in challenging conditions, with a requirement for a valid driver’s license and DoD access suitability. The position is based in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Science, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Botany, Natural Resources, or closely related field.
• Experience participating in wildlife surveys and biological field investigations.
• Working knowledge of Mid-Atlantic wildlife species and field identification.
• Ability to navigate rough terrain with maps, GPS, and compass.
• Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather and field conditions.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks for military access.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GPS equipment, and ESRI GIS software.
• Ability to collect, manage, and maintain accurate field data records.

Responsibilities

• Collect field data and contribute to QA/QC and data summaries.
• Communicate findings through written reports and oral presentations.
